Drop time for .com and .net domains — Verisign changes

Brew some coffee; the drop is going to start early.

Drop catchers, start your engines…a bit earlier.
Domain registry Verisign (NASDAQ: VRSN) is changing the time at which .com and .net domain names drop following pending delete.
Previously, domains dropped in the evening UTC. Effective October 1, Verisign is moving the drop time to start around 12:00 UTC. This means domain investors will need to place their orders with drop-catching services early.
And it’s quite early for U.S. investors, especially those on the West Coast.
During daylight saving time, 12:00 UTC is 5 am PDT. During standard time, it’s 4 am PDT.
On the East Coast, it’s 8:00 am and 7:00 am, respectively.
SnapNames/NameJet encourages clients to submit backorders no later than 15 minutes ahead of the drop begins. DropCatch asks clients to place orders thirty minutes ahead of time.
