Two top level domains — Comcast cans

Firm exits the “fresh” top level domain program.

Internet service provider and entertainment firm Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) has voluntarily terminated its two dot-brand top level domain names, .comcast and .xfinity.
The firm informed ICANN of its decision in September. ICANN opened a comment period the prior week following deciding it won’t transition the domains to a fresh provider (as is usual with dot-brand top level domains).
It doesn’t appear that the firm ever used the domains. Google has only indexed the obligatory nic sites for these two domains.
Comcast joins another recent brand to terminate top level domains. Clothing firm The Gap (NYSE: GPS) recently terminated its contracts for .oldnavy and .bananarepublic. It so far hasn’t terminated its other dot-brands: .gap and .athleta.
The Gap doesn’t appear to be using any of its top level domains, either.
