First investment through Donuts Labs — Donuts makes

Donuts’ first investment is in a geofencing firm.

DonutsTop level domain name firm Donuts has made the first of what promises to be many investments through its fresh Donuts Labs program.

Through Donuts Labs, the firm is putting its capital and registry knowledge to work by investing in emerging technologies that promote fresh uses for domain names, leverage the domain name system (DNS), or otherwise are complementary to Donuts’ interests.

The first of these is GeoFrenzy, a firm that has mapped the Earth to a resolution of a square centimeter for deployment of smart geofences.

Timothy Favia, Donuts Vice President of Corporate Development, explained that GeoFrenzy’s use of DNS for caching, as well as its similarity to a registry, got Donuts’ attention.

GeoFrenzy’s technology can be used for drones, such as keeping drones out of restricted airspace, as well as numerous internet of things applications.

Favia stated Donuts will soon announce its next investment under the Donuts Labs program.
