Domain names sell for $600,000 — Four .xxx

Registry sells four more premium adult domain names.

ICM Registry, the firm behind the .xxx top level domain name, disclosed today that it sold four premium .xxx domain names for $600,000.

Adult entertainment firm Really Useful Limited bought Mature.xxx, Bdsm.xxx, Publicsex.xxx, and Teen.xxx. Teen.xxx was the highest priced domain name at $400,000.

The Chairman of Really Useful, known only as “JT”, stated he has found his .xxx domain names to outperform .com domain names since visitors are pre-qualified:

“Google ranks them higher since they clearly identify the content as adult. This means that traffic to my .XXX sites has been pre-qualified by search engines and conversions from visitor to member are considerably higher.”

Indeed, for adult terms .xxx domain names seem to be gaining traction in search engines. In Google searches, porn.xxx comes up number 11 for the search “porn”.

JT also stated that getting the domain names now makes sense given ICM Registry’s plan to grandfather current .xxx owners in for the .porn top level domain name.
