How to change your fresh top level domain application

A one page word doc is all it takes.

Reglike was first to note back in June that ICANN was working on a plan to allow fresh top level domain applicants to modify their applications.

Now the guidelines and process are complete.

Applicants must fill out a short, one page form explaining the change and the reason for the request. They also must attached a redlined document of the changes they’re making.

The request will be considered against seven factors, counting if the change will adversely affect other applicants.

So far ICANN notes there have been 57 requests for changes to applications. Some of the known ones are:

1. VeriSign changing its Hebrew .com transliteration

2. Kerry Trading Firm correcting the spelling of “logistics”

3. DotConnect Africa changing from .dotafrica to .africa

The first two ought to be no problem given ICANN’s criteria; the third is questionable.

Applicants ought to note that any changes may result in a delay in evaluation.
