Newfold Digital completes MarkMonitor buyout

Newfold Digital now owns sizable registrar for brands.

Newfold Digital has completed its buyout of MarkMonitor. The $302.5 million deal was disclosed in September.
Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), the firm that sold MarkMonitor to Newfold, disclosed the deal’s completion today.
MarkMonitor is a domain name registrar that caters to sizable brands, counting Amazon and Microsoft.
In many ways, the registrar fits nicely within Newfold Digital’s portfolio of brands. Newfold owns Network Solutions and Register.com. Like MarkMonitor, these brands were early to the market and built sizable user bases. Today they are overpriced and haven’t kept up with much of the competition, but inertia keeps clients with them.
A complaint I’ve heard regarding MarkMonitor is that it keeps getting passed between private equity firms. That’s the case once again; Newfold is backed by Clearlake Capital Group and Siris Capital Group.
