First .Porn domain name dispute — Verizon wins

Verizon.porn, for all of your telecom porn needs.

VerizonVerizon has won a cybersquatting dispute with the registrant of Verizon.porn, the first such dispute to be resolved since the .Porn domain name became available in June.

A Fresh York real estate agent registered the domain name on June 4, the day both .Porn and .Adult were offered for sale by registrars. Verizon apparently did not take advantage of being able to register domain names matching its trademark ahead of the domains became available to the general public. Regarding 4,000 domains in each extension were registered during the trademark sunrise period.

Verizon is the only firm so far to file a cybersquatting complaint against a .porn or .adult domain name since they’ve launched, suggesting either brands by now registered their domains or there’s not a whole lot of cybersquatting going on with the two domains.

High registrations costs — regarding $100 per year depending on the registrar — are likely cutting down on cybersquatting.

There are regarding 12,500 .porn and 9,000 .adult domain names in the zone file, which likely under counts the total number of registrations. The two domain name extensions are run by ICM Registry, which also operates the .XXX domain name.
