Web.com purchases Fresh Zealand domain name registrar

Buyout comes on the heels of losing out on WebCentral.
Just weeks following losing a bidding war for Australian domain name firm WebCentral, Web.com has purchased a different registrar in the area.
The firm disclosed that it purchased FreeParking, which it states is Fresh Zealand’s top domain name registrar and hosting firm. The firm has over 90,000 clients and four brands: FreeParking, Open Host, Domains4less and Discount Domains.
The business will be managed by Dreamscape Networks, an Australian firm that Web.com purchased for USD 73 million last year. Dreamscape’s most popular brand is CrazyDomains.
Web.com is trying to aggressively expand in the Australia/Fresh Zealand/Southeast Asia area. It lost its bid for WebCentral to another Australian firm, despite offering more for the business. The FreeParking buyout might be the end of its expansion in the area for now; its press release regarding the deal stated it “rounds out Web.com Group’s strategic expansion” in the area.
The buyout price was not disclosed.
Private equity firm Siris Capital owns Web.com, which operates the Network Solutions and Register.com brands.
