Pokemon names tops in .com last month: No surprise

Pokemon-related names were the top trending domains in .com last month.

.Com registry Verisign has published its monthly list of the top trending words registered in .com. The list includes words that made the biggest jump in registrations from one month to the next.

It was a safe bet that the top word for July would be related to Pokemon. In fact, the top three were: go, pokemon and poke.

As stated by Verisign DomainView, 9,929 .com domains were registered last month with “pokemon” in them.

These domains include a trademark, of course, but Verisign will laugh all the way to the bank.

Here are the top 10 trending words from last month:

1. go
2. pokemon
3. poke
4. got
5. aerial
6. matter
7. lives
8. genes
9. dirty
10. panda

Some of the matter and lives domains are plays on Black Lives Matter, but many of them appear to be unrelated.
